Carving Out Depression | Mini Documentary

Orran Scruggs I shares how he met Charlie and how he helped him with depression by carving out wood items. This film is for the Moment International Film Festival in the Mini-Documentary category.

I’m very proud of Orran for stepping out and having the courage to speak on camera about how he copes with depression. There is SO much more to the story that I will cut another long edit of this story.

We started out filming this project with the intent to tell the story about Blue Bear Flutes along with doing a how-to video of the flute making process. Throughout the day I picked up on how Orran connected with wood carving and how it is therapeutic. We talked further and I asked him if this was a way he copes with depression. Sure. He said it is and at that moment, I knew this was the story I wanted to film.
